Chill Astronaut Releases Stardew Valley Lofi
Chill Astronaut (real name Peter) is a heavyweight in the lofi game. While perhaps most famous for his Lord of the Rings lofi, no franchise can escape his chilling grasp (see what I did there?). The most recent recipient of the spaceman treatment is StarDew Valley a staple game in the Cozy-sphere.
Just from the first few seconds of this album you know it’s going to be good. The sound design in the opening arpeggiated chords just scream (or whisper?) “it’s cozy adventure time”.
The use of live (or sampled) organic instruments is always a great choice in lofi but especially when tackling StarDew. The twangy guitar sound in Cloud Country takes you right to Pelican town.
The season tracks especially nail the feeling of each season from the bouncy hopeful spring theme to the somewhat somber yet beautiful winter.
It’s also worth pointing out the drums on this album. Peter nails the balance between slamming a hiphop beat and gently massaging your brain into a peaceful state. His drums manage to cut through all of the lush layers and pads without distracting from them or stealing any attention from the melody.
This album is a masterpiece for lofi fans and even more so if you’re a fan of StarDew Valley and the themes that have accompanied hours of arranging crops and attempting to woo local villagers.
